Know Thine Enemy 3

My Pastor, Kent McBay, provided most of the scriptures that will appear in this article. He also provided or inspired the thoughts that will appear here.

James 4:6: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Satan wants us to be proud.

James 4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

He does not want us to submit ourselves to God and he does not want us to resist him.

John 8:44: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

He is a liar and a murderer and he wants us to be liars and murderers.

Ephesians 4:11-13: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

We can avail ourselves of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. He does not want us to be perfected and edified. He does not want believers to be in unity. He does not want us to know or know about the Son of God. He does not want us to have the fullness of Christ.

Genesis 3:1-5: Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

He wants to create doubt about God rather than faith in Him. He lies to us. He wants to convince us that we will be like God through sin.

Exodus 20:2-4: I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

He wants us to have idols, anything and everything but God.

Genesis 3:6: And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

He wants to distract us from the truth of God.

Isaiah 30:1: Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

He wants us to continue in rebellion against God. He wants us to seek counsel from anywhere but God. When we sin, we are rebels. Rebellion starts out small but if we are not careful, it will grow and multiply. He does not want us seeking the Lord*s guidance. He wants to hide our sin from us so that we will not seek forgiveness for it. The list of good things he wants to keep from us is almost endless. And the list of evil and harmful things he wants to give us is also almost endless.

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
